As of now, hazardous wintry weather appears likely late on New Year's Eve and into New Year's Day.

According to the National Weather Service, the greatest potential for accumulating snowfall will be across central and northern Kansas as a winter storm moves through the area.

"Strong and gusty north winds will support blowing and drifting snow, poor visibilities, and hazardous travel conditions," the weather service noted.

The weather service was quick to point out, however, that some uncertainty about the storm remains. It encouraged Kansans to watch for updates as the storm gets closer to the state.

Currently, the greatest chance for accumulation of sleet and freezing rain appears to be in south-central and southeastern Kansas.

Additionally, the storm will bring with it frigid temperatures and strong north winds, driving wind chills in the area to below zero.
