Hooks score comeback win against Wind Surge

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas The Wind Surge fell short to the Corpus Christi Hooks 9-5 on Thursday night as eleven hits and nine runs fueled the Hooks comeback to victory.

Wichita struck first as Chris Williams hit a three-run homer in the top of the first inning to give the Surge an early 3-0 lead. Williams finished the night one for four with three RBIs.

Matt Wallner hit a two-run homer in the top of the third inning to extend the Surge lead to 5-2. Wallner finished the night going one for three with two RBIs and a walk.

Corpus Christi scored two runs in the first inning and three runs in the third inning that tied the ball game 5-5. Shay Whitcomb hit a two-run homer in the seventh inning to give the Hooks a 7-5 lead. Corpus Christi scored two more insurance runs that would go on to secure the 9-5 win.

The Surge offense was limited to four hits in the second consecutive game.

Notes: Ben Gross was placed on 7-day injured list…  Austin Martin recorded his 19th stolen base on the season… The Surge lost their first Thursday game of the season (5-1)… Chris Williams extended his hit streak to ten games…Matt Wallner hit his ninth home run of the season and now leads the Surge in homers…

Coming Up: The Wind Surge will resume action for game four of the six-game road trip against the Corpus Christi Hooks Friday for a 7:05 p.m. first pitch.
