Bruce E. Sample, 79 of Alta Vista, Kansas passed away Friday, November 27, 2020 at his residence. He was born February 2, 1941, the son of George and Katherine (McInturff) Sample in Council Grove.
He attended Garfield School and technical college for Telecommunications Repair.
Bruce married Millie Pitts.
He worked for Coffin Telephone Company for several years before retiring at S & A Telephone Company.
After retirement, he helped Millie by cooking at the Bull Dog Inn. Cooking was Bruce’s passion….he and Millie competed in BBQ Cook- Off’s, winning countless awards.
He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing pool, metal detector treasure hunting, and spending time with friends.
His family meant everything to Bruce. He loved spending time with the kids and grandkids.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a half-sister Sandra Sample Murphy.
Bruce is survived by his loving wife Millie; son Darin Sample and wife Kim, of Alta Vista; daughters: Shelly Chamberlain, of Ponca City, OK, Jewel Criqui and husband Arthur, of Lebo, and Jennifer Ziegenhirt and husband Eric, of Alta Vista; 9 grandchildren; 9 great- grandchildren; and a host of friends.
A memorial graveside will be held at 11:00am, Monday, December 7th at Greenwood Cemetery. Casual dress is requested. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society and sent in care of Sawyer Funeral Home, Box 273, Council Grove, KS 66846.
