LAWRENCE - Kansas Wesleyan Women's Volleyball extended its winning streak to five matches as the Coyotes swept both Haskell and Missouri Valley on Wednesday inside the Coffin Sports Complex.
KWU 3, Haskell 0 (25-23, 25-16, 25-22): In the opening set the Coyotes trailed 9-3 and later trailed 18-13 before going on a 6-0 run to take a 19-18 lead. After Haskell tied it, the Coyotes scored three straight to take a 22-19 lead. Haskell tied it back up before KWU scored three of the last four points of the set to grab the win.
KWU led 16-13 in the second set before embarking on a 5-0 run to extend the lead to 21-13. Haskell scored three in a row to make it 21-16 before the Coyotes closed out the set with a 4-0 run.
Wesleyan led 10-5 in the third but Haskell came back to tie things up at 10. Haskell took a 13-12 lead before the Coyotes scored five straight to lead 17-13. Haskell rallied and took a 22-20 lead when the Coyotes caught fire and closed out the set and the match scoring the final five points for the win.
Camryn Lewis and Ivi Marcolino had nine kills each to lead the Coyotes. Blair Pennington had 26 assists. Tristyn Hedman had 13 digs.
KWU 3, Missouri Valley 0 (25-22, 25-19, 25-21): KWU used a big first set to set the tone and come away with the sweep of Missouri Valley.
The Coyotes turned a 6-4 lead into a 15-4 lead thanks to a 9-0 run. The Coyotes led 22-16 in the set but a 5-0 run by Valley got the Vikings back within a point at 22-21. KWU led 23-22 before scoring the final two points of the set for the win.
Wesleyan again raced out to a big lead in the second set, leading 8-2, and led 17-9 before holding off a late run by Missouri Valley to get within five at 24-19 before the Coyotes got the set winning point.
Missouri Valley jumped out to a 7-1 lead to start the third set, forcing the Coyotes to rebound. KWU scored seven of the next nine points to get within one at 9-8. The Coyotes tied things back up at 12, but could not push out in front until a 4-0 run gave KWU a 21-19 lead. It was 23-21 in favor of the Coyotes before KWU scored the final two points of the set to claim the match.
Campbell Bohling led the Coyotes with 13 kills while Marcolino had 12. Blair Penning had 36 assists. Marcolino had three aces. Avery Conner and Lewis had three total blocks each. Marcolini had 11 digs.
