NWS: After a nice weekend, winter weather returns Monday

Posted Dec 28, 2020 12:30 AM

Winter weather returns to the area Monday as temperatures cool down and the potential for ice and sleet is forecast for Monday night into Tuesday.

Cold below normal daytime highs are expected across the region for Monday, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Wichita.

A storm system will bring chances of winter precipitation to the region for late Monday night into Tuesday. A period of freezing rain and sleet looks to begin late Monday and continue into Tuesday morning, NWS reported. The freezing rain/sleet line will gradually lift northward on Tuesday as warmer air from the south causes a changeover to rain.

The greatest potential for highest ice/sleet accumulation is for the darker blue shaded area, however this highlight area could be shifted with additional updates, NWS noted.
