On Monday, July 15, a Salina Police Department (SPD) officer attempted to stop a 1984 black GMC Suburban for improper registration but was soon involved in a 25-minute chase throughout Salina.

SPD Lt. Kyle Tonniges said the officer first tried to stop the vehicle at 7:56 p.m. in the 100 block of South 10th Street.

"There was a pursuit pretty much through all of town," Tonniges said. "The top speed on this pursuit was approximately 63 miles an hour."

Tonniges said that during the pursuit, SPD officers received a phone call from a female passenger inside the suspect vehicle.

"She was pleading with him [suspect] to stop, but he wouldn't," Tonniges said. "So she called us, and the vehicle eventually came to a stop at 400 block North Fifth Street."

SPD officers identified the suspect vehicle's driver as Shane McMillin, 33, of Salina.

"Officers checked along the route that this pursuit went on and because an officer noticed that a baggie containing a white substance was thrown from the driver's side of the car, an officer was able to locate a bag of methamphetamine on the ground on Seventh Street," Tonniges said.

Requested changes for McMillin include: Distribute certain stimulants; 3.5 - < 100 grams; use/poss drug paraphernalia/human body, Flee or attempt to elude; avoid tire device; interference with a Law Enforcement Officer; obstruct/resist/oppose felony warrant, Kidnapping; In flight or the commission of any crime and Taxation; Drugs; No drug tax stamp for marijuana or controlled substance.
