If you have a great chili recipe or you are a food vendor, the Smoky Hill Museum Street Fair organizers want to get in touch with you!

The Street Fair, held in and around the museum, 211 W. Iron Avenue, is scheduled for Sept. 25, and includes a parade, musical acts, and children’s activities, all with an Old West theme.

Entries are now being accepted for the Street Fair Chili Cook-off. Additionally, food vendor applications are now being accepted.

Chili Cook-off

The museum seeks teams to cook their own unique brand of chili for the contest. According to information from the museum, the first six teams to enter will compete for the People’s Choice Award and best decorated booth. Winners will receive a combination of cash and prizes valued at $150.

Entrants must prepare a minimum of five gallons of chili. Public sampling begins at noon. In order to make entering the cook-off less of a burden, the museum plans to provide a starting kit of ingredients that includes 15 pounds of beef and "a mess of onions and tomatoes."

"From there, each team can add their own unique ingredients to make the chili something special," the museum noted.

The application fee for the Chili Cook-off is $25 and must be submitted to the museum along with a completed application by June 30. The application and fee can either be hand delivered or mailed (postmarked by June 30) to the museum, 211 W. Iron Avenue. The application fee is non-refundable.

Printable entry forms and a complete set of rules and regulations can be found on the museum website under the Street Fair tab. If you would like to have a copy of the form mailed to you call 785-309-5776 or  email [email protected].

Food vendors

The museum also is accepting applications for food vendors to sell their wares during the Street Fair.

A completed application and a $25 application fee per vendor must be postmarked or hand-delivered by July 1 to the museum, 211 W. Iron Avenue. The application fee is non-refundable.

Vendors who are accepted will be notified of street placement and receive further information. Accepted vendors will have until Aug. 1 to pay the $100 vendor fee and turn in proof of insurance.

Online or printable applications may be found at smokyhillmuseum.org under the Street Fair tab. To have a copy of the application mailed, call 785-309-5776 or email [email protected].
