NEW ORLEANS, La. - The Cloud County Community College women's and men's track and field teams have combined for the highest rankings in a single-poll in program history with the release of the latest United States Track and Field Cross Country Coaches Association NJCAA Indoor Track and Field Poll on Wednesday.
In the week two release of the rankings, the women added to their already large lead atop the rankings while the men make the jump from number four all the way up to number two while closing the gap on the top spot in the country.
The women went from 483.26 points in the computerized poll up to 528.28 points as the T-Birds now hold a 200-plus point lead over second-ranked Barton Community College who has 315.66 points. No other team in the top-20 has managed to score 300 points in the computerized rankings, which takes into account the compiled results from NJCAA athletes this season. CCCC put up four national leading marks this past weekend to add to its already impressive numbers this year as the T-Birds are looking to make their way into the top-three at the national meet this year.
Over on the men's side, Cloud County went from 347.42 points down to 339.02 points but gained ground on both Indian Hills Community College and Iowa Western Community College who fell behind the T-Birds in the latest rankings. CCCC put up 11 marks that reside in the top-10 nationally at the Region VI/KJCCC Invitational last weekend, including the second-best mark in NJCAA history in the shot put by sophomore Courtney Lawrence.
After competing in each of the first three weekends of the season, Cloud County will take this weekend off before making the season-ending push with one more meet ahead of the NJCAA Region VI Championships and just over a month remaining before the 2021 NJCAA Indoor National Championships, both of which will take place in Pittsburg, Kansas.
