Obituary | Bruce Cleveland of Minneapolis, Kansas | Wilson Family Funeral Home

February 6, 1938 - February 3, 2022

Marlen Bruce Cleveland, 83, Minneapolis, passed away Thursday, February 3, 2022, at his home with his family at his side. Bruce was born February 6, 1938, in Concordia to Marvin and Helen (Uglow) Cleveland.

After graduating from Concordia High School, Bruce attended Kansas State University where he graduated with a bachelor of science in agricultural education.

On August 24, 1958, he married his high school sweetheart, Gretchen Larson, in Concordia.

Following his graduation from college, he started his teaching career in Courtland, KS and then moved to Minneapolis in 1964 where he taught until becoming a loan officer at the Ottawa County Bank. Bruce worked with agricultural loans until his retirement in 1991 from the United Branch of Bennington State Bank in Minneapolis.

He was a longtime member of the Minneapolis First United Methodist Church and served his community through his involvement in Lions Club, Ottawa County 4-H, Chamber of Commerce, American Heart Association, Economic Development Corp., U.S.D. 239 school board member, and he was a former president of the Bank Administration Institute.

Bruce was an avid K-State fan. He and Gretchen had season basketball and football tickets for many years until his girls became involved in school activities. He was a big supporter of his children and grandchildren in all their activities.  He loved his family dearly.

He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant sister, Marilyn Margaret Cleveland.

Survivors are his wife of 63 years, Gretchen; daughters Jody and her husband Mike Hamm, Deb and her husband David Pounds, and Jane and her husband Corey Alderson; brother Roger Cleveland and his wife Bonnie; grandchildren Kelsey and her husband Bryce Cathcart, Austin Hamm and his wife Hannah, Matt Hamm (Jenn), Tacy and her husband Alberto Contreras, Garrett Pounds (Andrea), Mara Pounds (Colton), Rikki and her husband Zach Seeberger, Kyler Alderson, and Ryann Alderson; and great-granddaughter, Nayeli Contreras.

Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., Sunday, February 6 at Wilson Family Funeral Home, 405 Argyle, Minneapolis, where the family will receive friends from 3:00 to 5:00. Private services will be held Monday at the funeral home with burial following in Highland Cemetery, Minneapolis.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Minneapolis First United Methodist Church or Hospice of Salina and may be mailed to Wilson Family Funeral Home, P.O. Box 166, Minneapolis, KS 67467.
