Wichita State’s Craig Porter Jr. is used to collecting stats, but not necessarily accolades.
The versatile junior managed to do both this past week, parlaying two all-around performances into his first-ever appearance on the American Athletic Conference Honor Roll.
Porter – a 6-foot-2 point guard from Terre Haute, Ind. -- had game-highs seven rebounds and six assists in WSU’s Saturday win over South Florida. For the week, he averaged 12.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, 5.5 assists and 2.5 steals over two games. He was 8-of-14 from the field, including 4-of-5 from three.
Porter is averaging 6.4 points and leads the Shockers in the rare combo of assists (3.5) and blocks (1.05) and has a nearly 2-to-1 assist-to-turnover ratio.
He’s been even better in conference play, averaging 9.0 points, 5.4 rebounds, 4.0 assists, 2.1 steals and 1.0 block.
Porter becomes the fifth Shocker to earn a weekly plaudit from the conference office.
Wichita State (13-9, 4-6) plays Thursday night at Cincinnati (6 p.m. CT, ESPN2) and is back home Sunday to face No. 14 Houston (noon CT, ESPN).
