Coyote men finish seventh at MidStates Classic

WINFIELD – The Kansas Wesleyan Men's Cross Country team finished seventh out of 14 teams at Saturday's NAIA MidStates Classic, hosted by Southwestern College, at the Winfield Veterans Home.

Wesleyan tied with McPherson with 226 points in the standings, but won the tiebreaker.

Jacob Lovell (SR/Junction City, Kan.) was Wesleyan's top finisher in the race, as he posted a Top-20 finish in 19th with a time of 26:49.3 for the 8K course.

Austin Hess (FR/Garden City, Kan.) was next for the Coyotes finishing in 46th with a time of 28:04.2, Timothy Kilburn was 67th with a time of 29:14.8, Shane Calvin (FR/Lakin, Kan.) was 71st with a time of 29:28, Trey Stramel (FR/Colby, Kan.) was 75th with a time of 29:34.9, Michael Vongphakdy (FR/Salina, Kan.) was 76th with a time of 29:35.1, and Stevie Merrill was 95th with a time of 31:13.5.

Saint Mary was the team champion in the event, as the Spires scored 17 points, just missing a perfect score by two points. Luke Skinner of Saint Mary was the meet champion finishing in a time of 24:48.

The Coyotes now set their sights on the KCAC Cross Country Championships, held on November 14 at Salina Great Life Golf Course, hosted by KWU.
