1 man hospitalized after semi carrying baby chicks crashes, burns

MCPHERSON COUNTY—One person was injured in an accident just before 8a.m. Wednesday in McPherson County.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 2015 Freightliner semi driven by  Larry R. Magaee, 52, Utica, Mississippi, was  westbound on U.S. 56 just west of 7th Avenue.

The semi rear-ended a 2016 Freightliner semi driven by Joseph Balikowa, 44, Tulsa, OK., who had slowed down to make a left turn.

The 2015 Freightliner, carrying a load of baby chicks  then entered the ditch, overturned and caught fire.

EMS transported a passenger in the 2015 semi Lester D. Curry, 58, Utica, Mississippi, to Wesley Medical Center.

Magaee and Balikowa were not transported for treatment. Curry was not wearing a seat belt, according to the KHP.
