The removal of the demolition site of the former Ambassador Hotel on 1616 W. Crawford has been approved to restart debris removal process.
Salina Commissioners approved a contract with Diehl Enterprises for a total of $782,411.00.
Diehl Enterprises formerly worked on the log jam that clogged the Smoky Hill River last year, resulting in the project costing upwards of $1 million.
Moreover, Commissioner Doug Rempp brought up an accusation made towards owner Staton Diehl by a member of the public that materials were illegally dumped at multiple sites, instead of the Salina Landfill.
He denied all accusations.
Due to complications with property owner Andrea Investments, LLC, the City has now decided to fully take over the demolition process.
The city will attempt to recover abatement expenses by requiring Andrea Investments to pay the cost of the abatement and all administrative fees to the City Clerk’s Office within 30 days of invoicing.
If no payment is received, the charges will be certified to the Saline County Clerk and placed on the property tax rolls.
Additionally, the City can consider bringing an action against the owners in district court for payment of a personal debt if the amount remains unpaid.
The demolition site of the former hotel has been full of debris since late October 2024 and was completely halted in July 2025.
No date for start or completion was given.
