Salina Police Department officers are investigating a vehicle theft that took place on Friday at the Walgreens on Broadway Avenue in Salina.

According to Salina Police Department (SPD) Captain James Feldman, a 75-year-old woman had left her blue 2012 Hyundai Sonata running with the keys inside when the theft occurred just after 10 p.m. in the 700 block of South Broadway Avenue.

"The 75 year old had stopped her vehicle in the Walgreens parking lot, got out to make contact with someone, left her vehicle running with keys in it and a female suspect entered and took her blue 2012 blue Hyundai Sonata," Feldman said.

The vehicle, which bears California license plate number 6UZB539, has not yet been recovered. The value of the vehicle is estimated at $12,000.

Officers were able to identify the suspect through video surveillance and have submitted an affidavit to the county attorney.

"No warrant has been issued. Just depending on the county attorney when we'll get that," Feldman said.

Officers believe the suspect may be from the Bennington area, and efforts to locate both the vehicle and the suspect are ongoing.

Feldman said the vehicle owner was cited for leaving her car unattended with the keys inside. The vehicle bears the license plate: 6UTZB539 with a California license plates.

The investigation remains active, and the public is urged to contact SPD if they have any information regarding the vehicle.
