A local man was arrested in connection to multiple crashes late Friday afternoon in south Salina.

The first crash occurred at approximately 5 p.m. Friday in the 2200 block of S. Ninth Street. Salina Police Captain Paul Forrester said this morning that Edwin Rodriguez, 36, of Salina, was northbound in the 2200 block of S. Ninth Street in a 2017 Toyota Forerunner when his vehicle was struck by an eastbound 2001 Subaru Forester driven by Joseph Sharp, 49, of Salina. Sharp then fled the scene.

Two girls, a 16-year-old and a 13-year-old who were among the four passengers in the Forerunner sustained minor injuries.

At approximately 5:05 p.m., officers were sent to the area of Montclair Drive and Belmont Boulevard for the report of a mailbox in the 2300 block of Belmont Boulevard that was struck by a white Subaru Forester.

Officers then were sent to the area of E. Magnolia Road and Highland Avenue where someone reported seeing the Forester. When officers arrived, they found Sharp sitting in the still-running Forester.

Sharp was arrested on the following requested charges, Forrester said.

●Third DUI

●Driving while suspended

●No proof of insurance

●Duty to report an accident causing damage

●Duty to report an injury accident
