UPDATED: SFD issues statement regarding fatal house fire

Salina Fire

The Salina Fire Department responded to a residential house fire at 119 S. Columbia early the morning of Thursday, March 20th. At approximately 4:20 a.m., emergency crews were dispatched following reports of a residential structure fire.

Upon arrival, firefighters encountered heavy fire conditions, with the rear of the house fully engulfed and significant fire spread throughout the interior of the residence. Crews worked quickly to contain the blaze and conduct search operations.

Tragically, one victim was found inside the home. Despite rescue efforts, the individual did not survive the injuries sustained in the fire, the identity of the victim is being withheld at this time.

The Salina Fire Department, in coordination with local authorities, continue working to determine the circumstances that led to the blaze, the fire remains under investigation at this time.

A fatal house fire early Thursday morning claimed the life of one individual, according to Salina Fire Chief Shane Pearson.

Salina Fire emergency crews were dispatched to the blaze at 119 S. Columbia Street at approximately 4:20 a.m. on March 20. Chief Pearson reported that the first fire engine arrived on the scene within minutes.

"There were extremely heavy fire conditions upon arrival," Chief Pearson said.

Chief Pearson stated that the cause of the fire remains under investigation. Details about the age of the deceased or the number of occupants living at the residence have not been released at this time.
