Art Cinema series brings glimpse of world art to Salina

Posted Oct 14, 2021 11:02 AM

See some of the world’s most mesmerizing art exhibitions without ever leaving Salina thanks to the Salina Art Center's Salon Discussion Series.

Sit back, enjoy some popcorn and take a quick trip around the world. Discussions to follow after the films.  Regular ticket prices still apply.  Film discussions are $5.

Thursday is the first film of the Salon Discussion Series, with Exibition on Screen: Girl with a Pearl Earring at 5:30 p.m. in the Salina Art Cinema, 150 S. Santa Fe Avenue.

In Exhibition on Screen: Girl with a Pearl Earring – and other treasures from the Mauritshuis in The Hague, the camera offers an exclusive view of world-renowned Mauritshuis Museum, going behind-the-scenes to look at the extraordinary Girl with a Pearl Earring. The film seeks to answer the questions that have haunted art lovers for decades: who was she? Why is it so popular? Why and how was it painted? Many of the clues that the film finds lie in other masterpieces housed in the collection.

Discussion is scheduled after the film at 7 p.m. with speaker, Gerrit Albertson.  Albertson, art conservator, will speak about his conservation of a Godfried Schalcken painting while he was at the MET Museum in New York City. He is the former Charles E. Culpeper fellow in painting conservation at the National Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C. Previously, he served as painting conservation fellow at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York.

If you are at the Cinema for EOS, sit back and enjoy the discussion on the big screen immediately following the film. If you are joining us virtually for the discussion only, follow the link on our website at www.salinaartcenter.org/salon-discussion-series.

Working with all the world’s major international museums and galleries, Exhibition on Screen creates films which offer a cinematic immersion into the world’s best loved art, accompanied by insights from the world’s leading historians and art critics. Since launching in 2011, Exhibition on Screen has released 22 films which have been shown in over 60 countries worldwide.
