October 17, 1923 - June 8, 2021

Vivian Marjorie Embers, 97, of McPherson, Kansas, passed away at 11:57 p.m., Tuesday, June 8, 2021 peacefully at Angel Arms.

Vivian was born in rural Holden, Missouri on October 17, 1923, a daughter of Vernon Tipton and Viola Savilla (Kitterman) Bird.

Vivian attended El Dorado grade school, El Dorado, Kansas, Roosevelt and Washington grade schools, Park School and graduated from McPherson High School, McPherson, Kansas in 1941.

She was a member of First Baptist Church, McPherson.

Through the years Vivian was a owner-operator of her own hairdressing salon out of her home for several years before working and managing for Beau Mart Salon. Then worked as a realtor for Duguid Insurance and Real Estate both of McPherson, Kansas.

Vivian was a member of American Legion Auxiliary, V.F.W. Auxiliary, Hospital Auxiliary, Professional Women's Business Club, Friends and Counsel and was on the board of the McPherson Opera House.

Vivian enjoyed flower gardening, birds, playing bridge, music, arranging parties and loved spending time with her friends and family, especially her granddaughters and great-granddaughters.

Vivian M. Bird was united in marriage to Kenneth Duane Embers, Sr. on January 11, 1942 at the First Baptist Church, McPherson, Kansas. The couple established their first home together in Wichita, Kansas for their first year. This union was blessed with the birth of two children, a son and a daughter, Ken and Jan.

She is survived by her children Ken Embers and his wife Pat, of Manhattan, Kansas and Jan Decker and her husband Karyl, of McPherson, Kansas. She is also survived by three grandchildren, Tami Wilson(Dan), Nicole Laine(John) and Sheila Embers and two great-grandchildren, Rylee Bachus and Madilyn Laine.

Vivian was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Kenneth; her sister Verna and her two grandson, James Andrew Embers and Christopher Luke Embers.

Memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 26, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church, McPherson, Kansas, with Reverend John Pattison officiating.

Burial will be at the McPherson Cemetery, McPherson, Kansas.
