McPHERSON – The McPherson Bulldogs scored four of their six runs in the seventh and eighth innings to pull away from the Kansas Wesleyan Coyotes for a 6-1 win on Friday at Bulldog Park in the series opener between the teams.

The game was moved to Friday to avoid weather issues on Saturday as cold temperatures are scheduled for the area.

Wesleyan got its first hit in the top of the third on a double by Jarrett Gable (SR/Colleyville, Texas), but the Coyotes could not bring a run across.

The Coyotes took a 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth inning on a homer by Dustin Sipe (SR/Aztec, N.M.), but in the bottom of the inning, McPherson scored twice to take the lead.

The Bulldogs picked up their first hit of the game in the fourth, and then scored twice to take the lead.

McPherson added a run in the seventh, and three in the eighth.

Wesleyan tried to rally in the eighth, loading the bases as Gable singled, Diego Solis (SO/El Paso, Texas) singled and Kendall Foster (SR/Prosper, Texs) walked, but the Coyotes could not score.

Gable had two of KWU's five hits in the game. The Coyote batters were plagued by strikeouts, as KWU had 16 total strikeouts in the game.

Tyler Triano (SR/Hollister, Calif.) made his season debut on the mound, tossing three perfect innings. Spencer Foley (SR/Lancaster, Calif.) went three innings allowing three runs, two earned, on four hits, and took the loss. Ritter Steinmann (SO/Oroville, Calif.) pitched an inning and two-thirds and Riley Gwin (SO/Houston, Texas) pitched a third of an inning, allowing three runs on three hits.

The teams will meet again on Sunday for a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. in McPherson.
