On Saturday evening, Salina Police Department (SPD) officers responded to a domestic disturbance in central Salina and made an arrest.
Police Captain James Feldman said a Salina woman, 29, sought assistance from a neighbor after she was allegedly choked and stepped on by a man she lived with, later identified as Robby Van Zile, 53, of Salina.
"A verbal argument ensued he grabbed her phone, smashed it on the ground as she was grabbing her stuff to leave," Feldman said. "She attempted to leave the residence through the front door. He blocked her from exiting. She said she wasn't able to leave out the back because he had put some screws in the back door to keep it from opening."
Feldman said Van Zile allegedly screwed the back door shut during the altercation with the victim on Saturday evening.

The victim reported that Van Zile pushed her to the ground, placed his foot on her neck, and applied pressure. He also allegedly pulled her hair, threatened to strike her, and slapped her on the back.
The victim managed to escape the residence and reach SPD.
Officers proceeded to contact and locate Van Zile. SPD officers arrested Van Zile without issue with requested charges of aggravated domestic battery, aggravated kidnapping, domestic battery, criminal damage to property and violation of a protection order.
According to Feldman, the victim had an active protection order against Van Zile, which prohibited him from having any contact with her or living in the same residence. Feldman did not know how long the victim stayed at the suspect's residence or when the protection order was put in place.
The woman victim was transported to Salina Regional Health Center for evaluation.
