UPDATE: Red flag warning, fire weather watches issued in area

UPDATE 3:30 p.m. Wednesday: The National Weather Service in Hastings, Neb., has changed the forecast for Jewell and Mitchell counties.

A red flag warning and fire weather watches have been issued for counties in our area.

The National Weather Service in Hastings, Neb., has issued a red flag warning for 1-7 p.m. Wednesday and a fire weather watch in effect from 1-7 p.m. Thursday for the following counties in our area.

Jewell County

Mitchell County

On Wednesday and Thursday, northwest winds of 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 45 mph are expected, with relative humidity values at 17 to 25 percent.

Any fires that ignite may spread rapidly and exhibit extreme fire behavior. Use extreme caution if engaging in activities that could result in fire ignition. Any fires that start during the daytime may exhibit erratic fire behavior as the cold front moves through in the evening.

The National Weather Service in Topeka has issued a fire weather watch in effect 1-7 p.m. Thursday that includes Dickinson County.

Northwest winds at 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 35 mph are forecast. Relative humidity is expected to be between 18-22 percent.

Additionally, the National Weather Service in Topeka has issued a fire weather watch in effect from 1-7 p.m. both Wednesday and Thursday for the following counties in our area.

Clay County

Cloud County

Ottawa County

Republic County

Northwest winds at 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 35 mph are forecast. Relative humidity is expected to be between 17-22 percent.
