Police: Mother arrested after suspected exposure of meth to infant

A mother was arrested after healthcare professionals discover an infant was possibly exposed to meth. 

According to the Salina Police Department (SPD) on June 5 at 8:30 am, officers responded to Salina Regional Health Center after an 8-month-old female infant was brought in.

 The hospital reported to SPD that the infant had a possible acute methamphetamine overdose. 

During the investigation, the infant was in the parental custody of Tiara Heitman (27). Family members of Heitman who was with her at the time, felt the infant needed medical attention.  

The family members then transported both the infant and Heitman to the hospital, according to SPD. 

Moreover, officers located Heitman in a vehicle at the parking lot of the hospital. She was then taken into custody, and a search warrant was conducted.

The conclusion of the search warrant determined that methamphetamine was located inside the vehicle.

Heitman was booked into the Saline County Jail for Aggravated Endangerment of a Child and exposing a child to methamphetamine chemicals, Possession of an opiate and marijuana.

The infant is okay and was released to family members, who currently have custody, according to SPD. 

The investigation ongoing.
