Chiefs Coordinator Quotes

August 11, 2026

DEFENSIVE COORDINATOR STEVE SPAGNUOLO

Q: What are you seeing right now with that third linebacker spot?

SPAGNUOLO: “Yeah, some guys are getting a lot of—with (LB) Drue (Tranquill) down, some other guys are getting a lot of reps. I like what (LB) Jeff's (Bassa) been doing. (LB) Jack (Cochrane) is a jack of all trades. You guys, when you're watching, you see he plays every spot there. Whether we're in sub, whether we're in base. I just think it's an opportunity with some of these guys out for those other guys to step up and get a lot of reps.”

Q: What are you most eager to see on Saturday in Preseason Week 1?

SPAGNUOLO: “Always the first one is tackling and that probably is preceded by what we call block destruction and getting off the blocks. And quite frankly, not so much today, I'd have to watch the film but yesterday, I didn't like the fact that a lot of run plays—and we're getting a lot more run plays than we used to—a lot of those run plays were going right down the middle of our defense. Now, we're not tackling and it's not live, but I would like to see us be a little bit more physical. So, I'm looking for physicality, tackling, the block destruction. Those would be the most important things.”

Q: On potentially signing in DE Emmanuel Ogbah.

SPAGNUOLO: “Yeah, I always had an affection for (DE) E (Emmanuel Ogbah). It was disappointing the one year we had him in 2019. I thought he was really coming on and then he got hurt and then we didn't have him at the end of the year. But I've always periodically been in touch with him. We've got to get through the physical and all those other things but if he's part of our group, I'll be excited about that.”

Q: What have you seen from DT Chris Jones at training camp this year, specifically with an evolving roster?

SPAGNUOLO: “Yeah, I'm sure you've talked to (DT) Chris (Jones). If you haven't, you will. It's probably different for him. There's not a lot of guys he's looking at side by side that have been in the league as long as he has. Although I do think he relates well to these young guys. He's always willing to help out a little bit, but I think for him, his work ethic himself and what he's doing, not helping anybody else, has been pretty good. I think during the practice today, (Head) Coach (Andy) Reid challenged him to kind of pick—and he did and we need that and Chris responds well with those kind of things when you ask him to do it. So, he's been good that way.”

Chiefs Players Quotes

WR ANDREW ARMSTRONG

Q: Generally speaking, how do you think camp has gone for you?

ARMSTRONG: “I think it’s going great. Just going in there, learning new things, if I mess up on anything, getting coaching from the coaches. That’s what I really love, getting coached hard. Just being out there and being the best that I can be and doing everything I can to be successful not only for myself but for the team.”

Q: What made Kansas City attractive from the outside looking in, what made you want to sign here?

ARMSTRONG: “Like I said, my family is here and this has been my favorite team since I was a little kid, so, I’m not worried about the city life and things like that. I’m here to play football and being around the team and the seriousness of it all, I really want to be around this environment. This is an extremely serious environment. I love that.”

Q: What is it going to mean when you run through the tunnel on Saturday?

ARMSTRONG: “It’s going to feel great. Just looking and seeing all the red. It’s different playing on the game then being in real life, so I know it’s going to feel amazing.”

WR RASHEE RICE

Q: Where do you want to improve the most this season?

RICE: “Honestly, I would want to improve the most on certain plays that I know specifically aren’t coming to me, just because it’s a full concept and everybody’s going to eat and everybody’s got to get the ball.”

Q: What has jumped out to you most about Offensive Coordinator Eric Bieniemy and Wide Receivers Coach Chad O’Shea?

RICE: “Real detailed, detailed on the things that are looked upon as far as like when you don’t have the ball, finishing to go block. We’ve got a crazy running back (RB Kenneth Walker) K9. So, there’s no telling where the ball is going to end up at the end of the play. We’ve got guys like (WR) Cyrus Allen, (WR) Tyquan (Thornton), that’s going to run down the field, might just need one more block. So as far as being in the room with (Wide Receivers Coach Chad) O’Shea, it’s details and being on the field is kind of a hectic situation and staying calm in that moment.”

Q: As a veteran what would your message be to the young guys?

RICE: “Find someone you can lean on, find someone you can talk to, and just, basically, don’t be scared to vocalize yourself and say exactly what’s on your mind because somebody else is going through the same thing. Too many people in the world to not go through the same thing.”

OL JAYLON MOORE

Q: On making adjustments after experiencing one training camp with Head Coach Andy Reid.

MOORE: “I wouldn’t consider it pacing yourself but this coaching staff and (Head Coach) Andy Reid are going to get the most out of you. He urges and pushes you to step outside of your comfort zone and not pace yourself. That’s the biggest thing we want to get out of each other, making sure we aren’t pacing ourselves, and keeping the push forward, and making ourselves uncomfortable.”

Q: What’s the key to maintaining the balance of different positions?

MOORE: “Honestly, it’s what I have been doing my entire career, so, if anyone can understand that anything could happen at a moment’s notice. Just making sure that you are preparing everyday even if you aren’t playing or don’t think you are going to play. I always tell the young guys no matter how it looks right now, the way the season goes at some point you are going to have to be in. The last thing you want to feel is not prepared when that opportunity comes.”

Q: What would it mean to you to start on opening night?
