A traffic stop late Wednesday night in north Salina resulted in the arrest of a driver who had an active warrant, lied about his identity, and attempted to flee the scene on foot.
Salina Police Captain Kyle Tonniges said this morning that at approximately 11:58 p.m. Wednesday, an officer observed a silver 2010 Pontiac G6 in the 200 block of W. Lincoln Avenue traveling without the use of its headlights.
"The driver, 38-year-old Patrick Wahl of Salina, gave the officer a false name. The officer was unable to locate any information on the name he was given," Tonniges said.

The officer asked Wahl for his information a second time and Wahl confirmed his identity. The officer returned to his vehicle to investigate and Wahl fled the vehicle on foot.
" When the officer caught up to him in the 500 block of N. Ninth Street, that is where the officer deployed his TASER to get Patrick into custody," Tonniges said.
It was learned Wahl had a Salina Municipal Court warrant for his arrest and a suspended driver’s license.
The officer initiated a traffic stop and another officer arrived with K-9 Tyrann to assist.
Tyrann sniffed the area where Wahl was located and alerted on a notebook, located on the ground. Inside the notebook were four Oxycodone pills.
In addition to the warrants, Wahl was arrested on the following requested charges, Tonniges said.
● No Proof Of Insurance
● Failure to appear
● Driving While Suspended
● Interfere w/ LEO; unknown circumstance
● Drive w/o lights when needed
● Possession of opiate, narcotic, or certain stimulant
