Saline County

The Saline County Treasurer’s Office was made aware of a text message scam targeting local residents today, August 1st. The fraudulent messages falsely appear to come from the State of Kansas; however, these messages are not legitimate.

The Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) and the Kansas Turnpike Authority do not collect tolls or send payment requests via text message.

How to Identify and Report Toll Scam Texts:

  1. Verify the source:  KDOT and the Turnpike Authority do not send text messages for toll payments.
  2. Beware of urgent requests: Scammers often create a sense of urgency to pressure victims into acting quickly.
  3. Don't click suspicious links:  Avoid clicking on any links within the text, especially if they lead to unfamiliar websites.

Saline County Treasurer Anthony Newell would like to re-enforce to residents that these texts are not from the State of Kansas or the Saline County Treasurer’s Office. Residents are urged to delete them immediately and not follow any instructions provided in the text message.
