Obituary for Shirley M. (Smith) Gunn | Bachelor-Surber Funeral Home

May 21, 1936 ~ February 6, 2022 (age 85)

Shirley M. Gunn, daughter of Herbert Smith and Hazel (Hammond) Smith was born May 21, 1936 at Belleville, Kansas and passed away on February 6, 2022 at Republic County Hospital, Belleville, Kansas at the age of 85.

Shirley  graduated from Belleville High School in 1954.  She was united in marriage to Robert L. Gunn on August 21, 1954 and to this union two children were born, Belinda and James. 

She was a member of the United Methodist Church, Republic, Kansas, MNO Bridge Club.  She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.  She was previously employed as city clerk of Republic, KS, for over 30 years.  She was a talented seamstress and traveled the state as a craft show participant

She was preceded in death by her parents Herbert and Hazel Smith, husband Robert L. Gunn, one son, James Gunn, and two brothers, Clifford Smith and William Smith.

 She is survived by one daughter, Belinda, (Jake) Myers of Wichita, Kansas, two grandsons, Jason (Melissa) Spitler of Topeka, Kansas, Clint (Whitney) Spitler of rural Lindsborg, Kansas, six great-grandchildren, Nevaeh, Trista, Cole, Hudson, Luke, Levi, one sister, Peggy Eubanks of Camarillo, California, two sister-in-laws Connie Smith and Pauline Gunn, nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Cremation was selected.

Memorial services will be held 10:30 a.m., Friday, February 11, 2022, United Methodist Church, Republic, Kansas, conducted by Pastors Lance Rundus and Roger Walls.

Private family inurnment will be in Rose Mound Cemetery, rural Republic, KS.

Memorials may be given to United Methodist Church, Republic, KS or Rae Hobson Memorial Library, Republic, KS.

Friends may sign the register book on Thursday, February 10, 2022 from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Bachelor-Surber Funeral Home, Belleville, KS.
