A Salina resident discovered his car was stolen while working after deputies contacted him about his abandoned car in Wichita.
Salina Police Department Lt. Kyle Tonniges said while the victim was away from his residence in the 900 block of Ellsworth Avenue, an unknown suspect stole his tan 2005 Ford F-350 and drove it to Wichita.
According to Tonniges, the victim left his home at around 6:45 a.m. for work on Monday, Feb. 12, and by 1 p.m. that same day, the Sedgwick County Sheriff's Office called him with the news.
"He went down there and retrieved his vehicle and then contacted us," Tonniges said. "Both the front and passenger side door handles were broken and the ignition had been drilled down."
The victim did not know how or when the unknown suspect stole the truck, but SPD continues investigating the vehicle theft.
Salina Post will update the story as more information becomes available.
