NWS: High wind warning, advisories issued

Hang onto your hats! It's a windy one today. The National Weather Service has issued a high wind warning and wind advisories for counties in our area.

High wind warning

The National Weather Service in Wichita has issued a high wind warning in effect until 7 p.m. Thursday for the following counties in our area.

Ellsworth County

Lincoln County

McPherson County

Saline County

North to northwest winds at 30 to 35 mph with gusts to around 58 mph are expected.

Damaging winds may blow down trees and power lines. Some power outages can be expected. Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

People should avoid being outside in forested areas and around

trees and branches. If possible, remain in the lower levels of

your home during the windstorm, and avoid windows. Use caution if you must drive.

Wind advisories

The National Weather Service in Wichita has issued a wind advisory in effect until 7 p.m. Thursday and including Marion County.

North winds at 25 to 30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph are expected.

Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result. Use extra caution when driving, especially if operating a high profile vehicle especially on east and west running roadways. Secure outdoor objects.

The National Weather Service in Topeka has issued a wind advisory in effect until 7 p.m. Thursday for the following counties in our area.

Clay County

Cloud County

Dickinson County

Ottawa County

Republic County

North winds around 35 mph with gusts up to 50 mph are expected.

Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result. Use extra caution when driving, especially if operating a high profile vehicle. Secure outdoor objects.
