Leroy William "Lee" Knittig 82, of McPherson, Kansas, passed away at 7:55 a.m. Wednesday, September 15, 2021 at McPherson Hospital.
Leroy was born in St. Louis, Missouri on September 14, 1939, a son of Eleanor (Fuchs) and Bernard Knittig.
Leroy attended Assumption Catholic School and graduated from Bishop DuBourg High School, St. Louis, Missouri.
He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, McPherson, where he was a member of the Knights of Columbus.
Leroy served in the Missouri National Guard.
Leroy William Knittig was united in marriage to Florence Barbara Kraft on July 11, 1964 at St. Cecilia Catholic Church, St. Louis, Missouri. The young couple established their first home together in St. Louis. They were blessed with the birth of four children - three daughters, and a son, Valerie, Janice, Gail and Nicholas. In 1977, the family moved to Canton, Kansas.
Through the years Leroy worked as a tow truck driver/mechanic for Brouk-Ziegler Motor Company in Arnold, Missouri. After moving to McPherson he began working for Cargill in the maintenance department and retired from Orscheln.
Leroy was a member of the McPherson Saddle Club. Leroy enjoyed shooting sports, anything to do with the St. Louis Cardinals or St. Louis Blues, and spending time with his family and friends.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of over 57 years, Barbara Knittig, of McPherson, Kansas; his children Valerie Cuthbertson and husband Dale of Canton, Kansas, Janice Holderness and husband Jim of Canton, Kansas, Gail Knittig of Newton, Kansas, and Nicholas Knittig of Seagoville, Texas; his three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; other relatives and a host of friends.
Leroy was preceded in death by his parents; and brother Donald Knittig.
Visitation and rosary will be held on Monday, September 20, 2021 from 5 p.m. to 6:15 p.m. with rosary staring at 6:30 p.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, McPherson, Kansas.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, McPherson, Kansas, at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 21, 2021 with Fr. Ben Shockey officiating.
Burial will be at the McPherson Cemetery McPherson, Kansas with military honors presented by members of the American Legion Post 24, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2715, and Mark Casebeer playing Taps.
