A Salina driver was cited after she failed to stop at a stop sign and crashed into another vehicle late Tuesday afternoon.

Martha Smith, 64, of Salina was eastbound on W. Walnut Street in a 2004 Honda Odyssey when she failed to stop at the stop sign at the intersection with S. College Avenue and struck a southbound 2021 Chevy Silverado driven by Kenneth Knerr, 64, of Salina, according to Salina Police Captain Paul Forrester. The impact forced the pickup to leave the roadway and strike a fire hydrant.

The accident occurred at approximately 5:55 p.m. Tuesday.

Smith reported possible minor injuries, Forrester noted.

The minivan received front-end damage and was towed from the scene. The pickup received passenger-side damage and was removed by Knerr. Additionally, the fire hydrant, which is owned by the City of Salina, was damaged.

According to Forrester, Smith was cited for failure to stop at a stop sign.
