High School theatre enthusiasts are invited to the first ever Theatre Visit Day on Friday, October 27, at Cloud County Community College.

The day will kick off at 8:30 a.m. with check in in the Welcome Center, and an introduction to Cloud’s new Theatre instructor, Julia Burr-Roveti.

“We are so excited to meet students how have theatre in their bones,” Burr-Roveti said. “This Theatre Visit Day is the perfect opportunity for theatre leaders to identify themselves and claim their stake in the limitless theatrical opportunities here at Cloud.”

Burr-Roveti comes to Cloud from Chesapeake College in Maryland, where she taught composition and literature and tutored all age students at local public and private schools. She received her bachelor’s degree from Middlebury College in English and Theatre. She received her Master of Arts in English from Middlebury Bread Loaf School of English, a prestigious and intensive summer master’s program for teachers on the East Coast.

“Cloud is fortunate to bring in a theatre instructor and director of such incredible studies and theatrical experiences,” said Brandt Hutchinson, Vice President for Student Services. “Not only does she have an impressive resume, but Julia also has a caring personality that is vivid and infectious. She has a passion for what she does and sincerely cares about her students.”

Burr-Roveti also has an extensive resume when it comes to theatre, having performed on and off-Broadway when she lived in New York City. While acting at the Vivian Beaumont Theatre (on Broadway), she sword fought at the Lincoln Center Gala.

Theatre visitors will also tour campus and Cook Theatre, have the chance to meet with academic advisors to learn about classes, and chat with the cast of “Picasso at the Lapin Agile,” Cloud’s fall play. The play will be November 30, December 1-2, at 7 p.m. in Cook Theatre, and is a comedy featuring the characters of Albert Einstein and Pablo Picasso, who meet at a bar called the Lapin Agile in Paris. Those who attend the visit day will be given two free tickets to the show.

In addition, any senior who attends the Theatre Visit day, and has a GPA of at least 3.0, is eligible to receive Cloud’s Early Bird Scholarship – a $500 scholarship for the 2024-2025 academic year.

“At Cloud, we are about being student centered and customer service. Walk through a classroom, and you see small class sizes. Walk by our faculty and student service offices and you see instructors and staff meeting one on one with students,” Hutchinson said. “Our visits are the same. While we do large visit days, we also want to host focused visit days that are dedicated to specific student interest. These concentrated visit days are a great opportunity for area high school students to explore the possibility of continuing what they love to do while working towards a degree.”
