T-Birds' Thompson, Henry earn KJCCC weekly honors

CONCORDIA - Posting top marks in the NJCAA in their respective events over the weekend, Cloud County Community College women's track and field athletes Miracle Thompson and Shackala Henry have been named Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference Women's Track and Field Athletes of the Week.

Thompson would run a qualifying time of 8.47 in the 60-meter hurdles before posting a time of 8.52 in the finals at the 2023 University of Nebraska Graduate Classic to win the event with the fastest time in the NJCAA this season. Thompson would go on to run a leg on the 4x400 meter relay team for the T-Birds that posted a time of 3:54.25 to place fourth at the meet while also hitting a national qualifying mark for CCCC.

Henry would make her T-Bird debut this past weekend, competing in both the long jump and triple jump with a pair of top-eight finishes. Recording a mark of 1.73 meters (5 ft. - 8 in.) in the long jump, Henry would finish third in the event with the top-overall mark in the NJCAA this season before going on to take seventh in the triple jump.

The award is Thompson's third KJCCC Track Athlete of the Week award and first in her indoor track and field career while Henry earns her first-ever KJCCC Track Athlete of the Week accolade.
