Police are looking for a driver who jumped from a moving stolen car in north-central Salina early Saturday morning.
A patrol officer was behind a gray 2003 Pontiac Grand Am in the 100 block of N. 11th Street at approximately 1:30 a.m. Saturday when the driver's side door opened and the driver jumped from the vehicle and took off running, Salina Police Captain Paul Forrester said this morning. The driver was described only as a white male.
The Grand Am, which was still in drive, then hit a parked 2003 Ford Ranger before coming to a stop. The pickup belonged to Sharon Rogge of Salina, Forrester said.
The registered owner of the Grand Am, Crystal McKellips, 39, of Belleville, was at work at a local nursing home and told police that she had parked the car at a friend's house in the 200 block of S. College Avenue at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. She said she left the keys to the car on the porch, according to Forrester.
The pickup suffered front end damage. The Grand Am also suffered front end damage and had to be towed, Forrester said.
