OKLAHOMA CITY – Kansas Wesleyan men's golf opened its season finished tied for fifth place out of 18 teams at the UC Ferguson Classic hosted by Oklahoma City University on Monday and Tuesday at Lincoln Park Golf Course.
The Coyotes completed the 36-hole tournament with a final score of 555, posting two rounds under 280 at 276 and 279. The tournament was originally scheduled for 54 holes, but inclement weather on Monday forced the tournament to rearrange to 36 holes.
Wesleyan was led by freshman Jackson Malone (FR/Frisco, Texas), who posted back-to-back scores of 67 to finish in third place with a total score of 134. Trevor Watson (JR/Coffeyville, Kan.) was second for the Coyotes, finishing tied for fourth with a score of 135, shooting 68 and 67.
Tyler Tarvin (SO/North Richland Hills, Texas) was next for the Coyotes, tying for 36th overall with a score of 142, which was even-par for the tournament. Landon Berquist (JR/Lawrence, Kan.) was tied for 60th with a 147 (74-73), and Nolan De Los Santos (FR/Lancaster, Texas) finished tied for 63rd with a 148 (71-77) to round out the team scorers.
Adam Vigars (SO/Princeton, Ill.) was tied for 65th with a 149 (77-72) and Brayden Katilus (FR/Lubbock, Texas) was 97th with a score of 165. Both played as individual medalists in the tournament.
Bellevue (Neb.) and Oklahoma City tied for first in the team scores, both with a 542, to share a five-shot victory over Southwestern Christian.
Oklahoma City's Will Fore shot a 14-under 128, posting scores of 65 and 63 to win the tournament's individual title by four shots.
The Coyotes are back in action next week at the SCU Fall Invite at Lake Hefner Golf Course in Oklahoma City on Tuesday and Wednesday.
