K-STATE HOSTS 10/10 IOWA STATE ON SENIOR DAY SATURDAY

K-State (15-15, 9-10 Big 12) concludes the regular season on Saturday, as the Wildcats play host to No. 10/10 Iowa State (22-8, 12-7 Big 12) at 12:30 p.m. CT on CBS. It will be Senior Day at Bramlage Coliseum, as the school will honor managers David Brown, Jarek Clark and Kameron Shaw as well as players Spencer Bain, Coleman Hawkins, Max Jones and David N’Guessan in pregame.

K-State and Iowa State will be meeting for the 242nd time on Saturday, as the Wildcats’ 147 win are the most against one opponent in school history. The Cyclones hold a slight 31-30 edge in the Big 12 era, as the Wildcats look to sweep the season series for the first time since 2020-21 after earning an 80-61 win on Feb. 1 to snap a 29-game homecourt winning streak at Hilton Coliseum.

It has been a roller coaster of a Big 12 season for K-State, which has had a 6-game losing streak followed by a 6-game winning streak followed by a 4-game losing streak followed by a current 2-game winning streak. The Wildcats got some good news in Wednesday’s win at Cincinnati, as senior Coleman Hawkins played nearly 34 minutes in his return to the court after missing 2 games.

LAST TIME OUT

Senior David N’Guessan continued his strong play in Wednesday’s 54-49 win at Cincinnati with his team-leading sixth double-double of the season (and ninth overall) with a game-high 18 points and 10 rebounds. N’Guessan led or was tied for the team lead in 5 different categories, including points, rebounds, assists (4), steals (2) and blocks (1). He scored 14 of his 18 points in the second half in helping the Wildcats overcome a halftime deficit for the first time this season.

The stifling defensive effort helped snap a 3-game road skid while sweeping the regular-season series from the Bearcats. The 49 points were the fewest allowed by a Jerome Tang team and the fewest allowed in a conference game since Oklahoma State had 46 points on Feb. 23, 2019. The 54 points were the fewest in a road win since a 50-46 win at Iowa State on Feb. 21, 2009.

KEY STORYLINES

  1. Newcomers have combined to score 1676 (77.8 percent) of the team’s 2153 points, accounting for 78 of 102 double-digit scoring games. Senior returner David N’Guessan has scored in double figures in a team-best 24 games (out of 30 games played) with five 20-point performances, but the next 6 highest scorers are newcomers, including 19 double-digit scoring efforts by junior Brendan Hausen and 18 by junior Dug McDaniel, 16 by senior Max Jones and 15 by senior Coleman Hawkins.
  2. N’Guessan, who earned Big 12 Player of the Week honors for the first time on Feb. 10, continues to lead the Wildcats in both scoring (13.1 ppg.) and rebounding (7.2 rpg.) while connecting on a Big 12-best 63.1 percent (161-of-255) from the field. He has scored in double figures in 14 of 19 Big 12 games with 5 double-doubles, including an 18-point, 10-rebound effort at Cincinnati on Wednesday.
  3. McDaniel has continued his emergence in the last 13 games, as he is averaging 13.5 points, 5.9 assists, 2.8 rebounds and 1.8 steals with 11 double-digit scoring games, including three 20-point efforts against No. 3/3 Iowa State (2/1/25), No. 13/13 Arizona (2/11/25) and BYU (2/15/25).

A K-STATE WIN WOULD…

  3. Be the 55th vs. a ranked opponent at Bramlage Coliseum.
