Salina man arrested after two-vehicle accident

A Salina man was arrested on multiple requested charges after the car he was driving struck a parked pickup in central Salina late Wednesday.

Zachary VanBebber, 35, of Salina, was northbound in the 700 block of Hancock Street when the 2017 Toyota Corolla he was driving struck a parked 2001 Ford pickup owned by Boretec LLC, 1645 Copper Court, Salina Police Captain Paul Forrester reported this morning. The impact pushed the pickup forward and up onto the curb, he added. The accident occurred at 11 p.m. Wednesday.

According to Forrester, VanBebber fled on foot from the scene.

Witnesses at the scene told officers that the driver was a male who was bald and had a long beard, Forrester noted.

Officers then received a 911 call from 673 South Third Street. They responded to that location and spoke to VanBebber, Forrester explained.

After investigating the crash and speaking to witnesses, officers arrested VanBebber on the following requested charges, Forrester reported.

Duty to report accident with an unattended vehicle/property damage

Reckless driving

Driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs

Driving while suspended

No proof of insurance
