The City of Salina's Drive-thru Recycling Center brings together a variety of recyclable items each week. On Saturday, it is attempting to bring together the community to help others.

From 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, the Salina Drive-thru Recycling Center, 125 W. North Street, will host a Recycling Generosity Donation Drive to benefit the Salina Emergency Aid Food Bank, Salina Animal Services, and the Friends of the River Foundation’s Spring Spruce-up.

"This family friendly event strives to encourage community togetherness through generosity and recognition of our local support systems. All unopened pantry staples, individually packaged snack foods or animal food donations will be greatly appreciated," the city noted in a news release.

Free Salina Drive-thru Recycling Center swag will be available for those who participate in the event.

Packaged snacks are being collected to be provided to volunteers of Spring Spruce-up on April 30. Additionally, Jane Anderson, executive director of the Friends of the River Foundation and Barb Young, Spring Spruce-up Committee member, also will be at the Recycling Generosity Donation Drive to speak about the different Spring Spruce-up projects that are available, Sydney Johnson, the city's E3 coordinator, told Salina Post.

Animal food donations being collected include kitten milk replacer, pet treats, and canned dog food.

The drive also will be collecting hygiene products such as toiletries, soap, toothbrushes and toothpaste, as the food bank plans to put together Easter Hygiene Baskets for their clients.

And, of course, you also can drop off items to be recycled while you are there!

In coordination with the event, Salina Animal Services, 329 N. Second Street, plans to run an adoption special at its facility from 9 a.m.-1 p.m., according to information from the city.
