Gladys June Chaput passed away at the Salina Presbyterian Manor surrounded by family on June 22, 2023, at the age of 90. She was born October 20, 1932, the daughter of Eddie H. Blackwell and Marie F. (Letourneau) Blackwell on a farm near Aurora, KS. Gladys was united in Holy Matrimony to Dennis Dean Chaput on August 7, 1952. They were married for 68 years and to this union 6 children were born. Being a mother was the biggest and most important accomplishment of her life. When her children became school age, she began working at St. Mary's Grade School; while, in her later years, she became employed at Salina Presbyterian Manor. Gladys was a humble person who loved and served God, her family and others.
Gladys is survived by her children; Dennis (Sharon) Chaput of Granger, IN, Tom (Dorothy) of Manhattan, Ken (Becky) of Wichita, Susie (Dave) Adams of Columbia, MO, Mike (Kerry) of Salina, Mark (Kathy) of Salina, sister, Mary Kenworthy, Concordia, 16 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great granddaughter.
Gladys was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dean; her sisters, Millie Solbach, Walla Walla, WA and Peggy Sulanka, Aurora; brothers, Richard Blackwell and Carroll Blackwell, Aurora; daughter-in-law, Virginia Chaput, Manhattan, and great-grandson, Jacob Cullens.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 11th from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at the Ryan Mortuary. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 12th at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 1000 Burr Oak Lane, Salina, with Fr. Keith Weber officiating. Inurnment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Salina. The family would like to thank all the employees of Presbyterian Manor for the love and compassion that Mom received while entrusted in their care. Memorials are suggested to Salina Presbyterian Manor Employee Christmas Fund.
