WICHITA – More Kansas Wesleyan school records were set, and more outstanding performances happened for the Kansas Wesleyan men's track team over the weekend at the KT Woodman Classic hosted by Wichita State University.
The Coyotes matched up with some top talent from all levels of collegiate track from NCAA Division I to NAIA and junior college.
Austin Hess (JR/Garden City, Kan.) set a new school record in the 10000m with a time of 32:19.63, placing 14th, but wasn't the only record setting performance. Shane Calvin (JR/Lakin, Kan.) also broke the former school record with a time of 32:24.73, placing 15th and Jack Horacek (SO/Topeka. Kan.) placed 27th with a time of 33.39.51.
Cole Parker (SR/Corning, Calif.) continued to rewrite the throws record book for the Coyotes, he tossed a 57.02m mark in the javelin, setting a new school record and hitting the NAIA A Standard along the way, and placing fifth in the event.
The Coyotes had plenty of other strong finishes in the event.
Eryk Kyser (JR/Caney, Kan.) placed fourth in the long jump with a mark of 7.14m.
In the shot put, Cole Parker placed sixth with a mark of 15.10m, Dylan Worrell was 16th with a mark of 13.57m, and Jonathan Calzada (FR/Salina, Kan.) was 23rd with a mark of 11.65m.
In the hammer, Simeon Faagai (JR/Ponca City, Okla.) placed 12th with a mark of 49.34m, and Cody Flax (JR/Culver, Kan.) was 25th with a mark of 37.02m.
Kamal Murphy placed 13th in the triple jump with a mark of 12.78m, and Arlander Johnson (SO/Salina, Kan.) placed 14th with a mark of 12.75m.
In the 200m, Eryk Kyser led the Coyote finishers in 22nd place with a time of 22.08 seconds. Riley Carcia was 65th in 23.13, Tyler Fontenot (FR/Houston, Texas) was 77th in 23.79, James Preston was 82nd in 24.09, and Conner LaRosa (SO/Herington, Kan.) was 89th in 24.50.
In the 800m Ty Davidson (SO/Lakin, Kan.) finished with a time of 1:58.10 placing 23rd, Julian Avila (SO/Manhattan, Kan.) was 34th in 2:01.28, and Will Griffith was 45th in 2:03.81.
Simeon Faagai placed 23rd in the discus with a mark of 40.52m.
Kamal Murphy placed 29th in the 400m hurdles with a time of 64.49 seconds.
In the 5000m, Jake Cruz (FR/Pasadena, Texas) ran a 15:45.22, placing 40th, Cisco Alvarez (SO/Colorado Springs, Colo.) was 48th in 15:56.51 and Giovanni Rios (SO/Temecula, Calif.) was 51st in 15:58.38.
In the 400m, Ty Davidson led the way in 51.76 seconds placing 51st, Riley Garcia (FR/San Antonio, Texas) was 62nd in 52.62, Will Griffith was 65th in 52.73, Conner LaRosa was 75th in 53.77, Nicolas Martinez (FR/Coppell, Texas) was 77th in 53.86, and Julian Avila was 78th in 54.26.
In the 1500m, Nicolas Martinez was 60th in 4:24.55, and Remington Wiseman (FR/Howard, Kan.) was 80th in 5:19.86.
In the 100m, Que Hill (JR/Salina, Kan.) placed 63rd in the 100m with a time of 11.36 seconds. Tyler Fontenot was 73rd in 11.53, James Preston was 76th in 11.56 and Darius Archuleta (SO/Liberal, Kan.) was 81st in 11.81 seconds.
Up next for the Coyotes will be a select group heading to Lawrence for the 100th running of the Kansas Relays next week, and the team will head to North Newton for the Bethel Invitational next Saturday.
The Coyote Distance Carnival at Olson Family Track at JRI Stadium at the Graves Family Sports Complex will be on April 21 starting at 6 p.m.
