Burl LeRoy Tompkins 86, passed away on Wednesday June 11, 2025, at Parkview Care Center, Osborne, KS.

Burl was born on May 28, 1939, in Smith Center, KS to Orville and Margarite (Duer) Tompkins. Burl graduated from Portis High School in the class of 1959. When he was in school he worked for local farmers, while also serving in the Kansas National Guard. Burl worked several different jobs throughout his life. He was a construction worker, mechanic, and a truck driver. On August 8, 1966, Burl married Cheryl Thompson, in this union they were blessed with two daughters Ami and Jonna. On May 29, 1981, Burl married Judith Brummer, to this union Judy brought three daughters Jodi, Mary Ann, and Kristi.

Burl was very handy and could repair almost anything that was broken; He was very active in the church. He was a head usher and no matter what the weather was like Burl made sure the church was open and ready for services, activities, or whatever was going on at the church. Burl enjoyed watching KU basketball, doing word search and hidden object puzzles. He also loved watching the birds and squirrels play, and took great joy playing dominoes with the residents at Parkview Care Center.

Burl is preceded in death by his parents, sister Rose Sears, and brother Alvin Tompkins.

Burl is survived by his wife Judith Tompkins of Osborne, 5 daughters Ami (Doug) McMurdo of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Jonna Gilliam, Santa Fe, Texas, Jodi Holmes, Russell, Kansas, Mary Ann Graham, Lawrence, Kansas, Kristi (L.A.) Scott, San Bernardino, California, two sisters Vonda Tompkins, Osborne, Kansas Ethel (Derald) Sears, Smith Center, Kansas, and one brother Edward (Fontella) Tompkins, Osborne, Kansas. Burl was blessed to have 12 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at the Osborne United Methodist Church on July 12, 2025 at 11:30am. Burial will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, family requests that memorials to be given to Osborne United Methodist Church, 105 N 3rd St. Osborne, KS 67473
