Police are investigating the attempted theft of an ATM at a south Salina bank early this morning.

Officers were dispatched to Sunflower Bank, 3025 Cortland Circle, at 4:26 a.m. Thursday. According to Salina Police Captain Paul Forrester, the reporting party called the law enforcement dispatch center after seeing a suspicious truck with chain near the bank's ATM.

When officers arrived, they found an unoccupied 2002 Ford F250 bearing a Kansas license plate of 929MDX still running just west of the ATM. The chain was attached and there was significant damage to the ATM, Forrester reported.

Surveillance video from the bank showed the truck arrive at 4:03 a.m. Three persons left the scene without the truck 4:07 a.m.

The crime scene was being processed this morning, Forrester noted.
