The Salina Police Department has won this year's American Red Cross Battle of the Badges.

The annual American Red Cross blood drive was Monday through Wednesday at Sunrise Presbyterian Church. In the end, the Salina Police Department, with the help of other law enforcement personnel and donors handily won the bragging rights for this year's event.

According to a post on the Salina Police Department website, this was the first time since 2017 that law enforcement has won over the Salina Fire Department/EMS.

"Representatives from both departments spent time at the drive all three days. This was a great opportunity for the donors and community members to get to know them in a different environment. It was great!" Teri Novotny, American Red Cross account manager, told Salina Post.

In the end, 256 units of blood products were collected, include 112 units of Type O blood, the most needed blood type, Novotny said.
