A 27-year-old Salina man was injured after his motorcycle collided with a deer west of Salina on Sunday evening, according to Saline County Sheriff Roger Soldan.

At approximately 7:49 p.m. on Sunday, a motorcyclist was riding his blue 2007 Honda 1300 motorcycle westbound on Old 40, about four-tenths of a mile west of Amos Road, when a deer suddenly jumped out from the ditch.

"Unfortunately for him, he didn't strike it with the motorcycle. The deer ran into his left leg," Soldan said. "It hit him in the side. He was able to maintain balance on the bike and pull over, but it did fracture his leg."

The man was transported to Salina Regional Health Center by Salina EMS for treatment. Sheriff Soldan confirmed that the motorcycle itself was not damaged, aside from some blood from the deer. A friend of the motorcylist was able to retrieve the motorcycle and ride it home.
