Late Tuesday afternoon, a residence in the 7200 block of East Farrlley Road reported a burglary where the suspect stole more than $10,000 in various American currency.
According to Saline County Sheriff Rodger Soldan, the unknown suspect stole $7,300 in cash, the rest in antique coins, and $2 bills.
"They had a collection of $2 bills, about 100 antique silver dollars, about 50 of the 1960s era silver dollars, $50 in loose change and then five 1841 silver dollars that were valued at $3,500," Soldan said.
The burglary occurred between 2 p.m. and 5:30 p.m., when both residents were away from home.
Soldan said there was no evidence of forced entry, so the suspect may have entered through an unlocked door or window. The burglar damaged a few pieces of furniture, including a nightstand and chair.
One of the residents had worked in his shop on the property in the morning and left around 2 p.m. for the town. His wife arrived home at 5:30 p.m., discovered the crime and contacted the Sheriff's Office.
The total loss due to the burglary adds up to $11,020, with $10,900 in physical currency and $120 in property damage.
