Robert S. Griffin, 79, Minneapolis, died Monday, December 5, 2022, at the Salina Regional Health Center. Bob was born January 19, 1943, in Salina to Wilton Sylvester and Virginia (Mikesell) Griffin.
Bob was a graduate of Minneapolis High School, and he continued his education at Kansas State University where he received his bachelor’s degree.
Bob and Jean Warren were married August 25, 1963, and had a son, Todd.
After graduating, they returned home, and he created JB Quarter Horses and JB Western Supply. During this time, they actively traveled the surrounding states raising and showing horses in competitions.
After many years of competition traveling, he retired the business and created yet another, Griffin’s Antiques, which was located in Minneapolis, all the while working for his father at Griffin’s Contracting.
Bob was a Scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop 91 in Minneapolis for almost 20 years. During his leadership, the troop produced nine Eagle Scouts. Bob’s love of the outdoors allowed his scouts to experience countless canoe trips all over Kansas, Nebraska, and Canada.
Bob spent a lifetime in the construction world. He owned and operated Griffin’s Contracting for many years and created many projects in the Minneapolis and surrounding areas. He was a longtime member of the Community Bible Church in Minneapolis.
Jean preceded Bob in death on April 7, 1996, and on May 1, 1999, he and Barbara (Locke) Gilley were united in marriage. He and Barb loved traveling and gardening together.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents; first wife Jean; his stepdaughter Debra Boll; and step-granddaughter Angel Boll.
Survivors include his wife Barb; son Todd Griffin and his wife Rachel; sister-in-law Beth (Warren) Cudney and her husband Robert; stepdaughters Deanna Pounds and her husband Kevin, Kay Gawith and her husband Jim, and Pam Clancy and her husband Greg; two grandsons, Stuart and Grant Griffin; 10 step-grandchildren; 18 step-great-grandchildren; and two step-great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., Sunday, December 11 at Wilson Family Funeral Home, Minneapolis. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m., Monday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Community Bible Church or V.F.W. Auxiliary #3201 and be left in care of Wilson Family Funeral Home, P.O. Box 166, Minneapolis, KS 67467.
