The thief who stole grounding cable from an Evergy substation under construction south of Salina may not have gotten what he or she was hoping for.
Saline County Sheriff Roger Soldan reported this morning that sometime between Dec. 13 and Monday, someone forced open a Conex box at the construction site, 3363 S. Ninth Street, and cut several feet of grounding cable from a spool in the box. The exact length is not known and loss is estimated at approximately $150. Additionally, $350 in damage was done to the Conex box latch.
According to Soldan, the cable stolen is a composite and has very little recycling value because it has a low copper content.
