Obituary for Glenda R. (Porter) Minnig | Tibbetts-Fischer Funeral Home

October 2, 1946 ~ February 4, 2021 (age 74)

Glenda Rae Minnig was born on October 2, 1946, in Fairbury, Nebraska, the daughter of Aaron and Arlene (Thomas) Porter. Glenda attended Chester-Hubbell Schools, and graduated class of 1965. She then attended Kearney State College for one year.

She was united in marriage to Donald Lee Minnig on August 13, 1966, at the United Methodist Church in Chester, and to this union of 54 years, two daughters were born, Leesa & Janna.

Glenda worked at Foote’s Café in Chester, and would also help her father at Hubbell Coop elevator during harvest. In January of 1989, Glenda started working as a teller at the People’s National Bank in Belleville, retiring 27 years later in January of 2016. Following her retirement, Glenda and Don relocated to Lincoln, Nebraska, to be closer to their family.

Always on the go, Glenda and Don attended as many of their children, and later grandson’s events, as they could. A picture of kindness and generosity, Glenda  selflessly offered a helping hand to those in need. Her meticulous nature assured she cared for every detail, keeping many lists, very detailed records and thoughtful plans. She kept her faith and her community as cornerstones in her life and enjoyed spending time with her friends and family, encouraging all those who knew her.

Glenda passed away peacefully at her home in Lincoln with her husband, daughters, son-in-law and beloved pet Otis at her side on February 4, 2021, at the age of 74 years, 4 months and 2 days.

She is preceded in death by her parents, and brother in law Louie Flanagin.

She will be forever remembered by her husband Don, daughters Leesa Minnig and Janna Meyer and husband Shawn, grandson Paxton Minnig and his girlfriend Brooklyn Minzel of Lincoln, grandson Maddox Meyer and grandson Brixon Meyer of Malcolm. She is also survived by her sister Carole Flanagin of Lincoln, and brother Jack Porter of Omaha, many nieces and nephews, and many friends.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, February 10, 2021, from 9am – 8pm, at Tibbetts-Fischer Funeral Home in Belleville, with the family greeting friends from 6pm – 8pm.

Funeral Services will be Thursday, February 11, 2021, at 11:00 a.m., at the United Methodist Church in Chester, with Pastor Brian Faust officiating. Burial will follow at the Chester City Cemetery.

Memorials are requested to the Glenda Minnig Memorial to benefit the Chester Methodist Church and the LEO Club, and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
