On Sunday morning city and rural firefighters responded to a house fire in Assaria.

At approximately 9:33 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 19 firefighters responded to a fire at a home located in the mobile home establishment on the northwest side of Assaria, 100 block of Borgmeyer Lane.

Before the fire broke out, the home was occupied by the 54-year-old homeowner, his 51-year-old wife, 28-year-old son, and the homeowner's four grandchildren. According to Saline County Undersheriff Brent Melander, everyone was able to escape the home and no one was injured as a result of the fire.

Initial damage estimates exceed $30,000, according to the Saline County Sheriff's Office.

"The owner said they were having ongoing electrical issues prior to when someone noticed the fire," Melander said. "Nearby homes were evacuated due to the active fire."

The City of Assaria Fire Department and Rural Fire Department Six provided mutual aid. All departments were clear of the scene by noon.
