The Southeast of Saline Trojans erase a seven point halftime deficit to start their new year with a 58-55 win over the Minneapolis Lions.

This is the first loss of the year for the now 6-1 Lions, while the Trojans advance to 3-4.

Minneapolis jumped out to an early 10-point lead and was able to maintain most of it heading into the half, but Southeast refused to go away heading into the break.

“It was sluggish from the start but I thought we did a really good job of weathering the storm and trying to keep it close,” SES head coach Bryson Flax said. “We knew if we could do that we would have a chance and I was really proud of how our guys fought.”

Out of the break, the Trojans tightened the screws on defense and were able to slowly chip away at the Lions lead.

“I got on the guys a little bit because I knew we were capable of doing more on defense in the first half,” Flax said. “Offensively I thought we did what we needed to do but we needed to turn things up defensively and they did that in the third quarter.”

SES was led by a good, balanced scoring attack, with four players notching double digits, led by 12 from both Camden Spano-Lund and Nakari Morrical-Palmer.

Spencer Davidson of Minneapolis led the way for the Lions, putting up 19 in the losing effort.

The Trojans will be back in action next Tuesday when they travel to Clay Center to take on the Tigers.
