In late June, an outbreak of COVID-19 forced the closure of The Salvation Army Salina Corps Community Center.

That also meant no showers and water provided to Salina's homeless population.

Now the Salina Family YMCA, with the help of Catholic Charities of Northern Kansas, Saint John's Missionary Baptist Church, Mahaska, and members of the community, is stepping up to fulfill that need.

From 6-8 p.m. Sunday, the Salina Family YMCA, 570 YMCA Drive, will be providing showers. Additionally, hygiene kits provided by Catholic Charities and water provided by Mahaska and community members will be distributed. Saint John's Missionary Baptist Church will be on hand to provide a meal for homeless persons.

Then at noon on Wednesday in Kenwood Park, additional water will be distributed. Sack lunches provided by Catholic Charities will be distributed as well.
